Near Miss November 2007

This was the scene on 9th November 2007.  The night before, residents of The Quay and neighbours from around the village gathered on the waterfront and watched as the tide crept over the boatyard and sneaked up from behind, working its way along The Quay.  Fortunately, it began to recede just in time, but waking the next morning was a shock to find, at 6am, we were still on high water!  The storms at sea held the water in the estuaries and now we had the next incoming tide to add to a desperate situation.  On this occasion, we were in luck... the surge abated at the same time as the incoming tide, to be replaced by the incoming tide as oppose to combining with it.  A sigh of relief.
